Our History
Long Drive Dog & Cat Hospital was founded in the 1950s by Dr. Leon Slatko. It was one of the first veterinary clinics in Houston, Texas. By the 1970’s it had grown to a three-doctor practice. Dr. Slatko retired in the mid-1990s after selling Long Drive Dog and Cat Hospital to Dr. John Shelby. Since then, Dr. Shelby grew Long Drive Dog & Cat Hospital into a busy, six-doctor practice, where everyone was seen within a 1,200-square-foot building.
To Present Day
In 2010, Long Drive Dog & Cat Hospital moved into their new facility with an expansive 5,400 square feet. The new facility that we are in today has an enlarged surgery suite with enough room for two doctors. The expanded dental and treatment areas are adjacent to our dedicated radiology room that contains a DR, full-body, digital x-ray unit. We also have a DR digital dentistry x-ray unit that is very similar to the one your dentist uses during your visits. We maintain an in-house laboratory with multiple Idexx laboratory equipment that helps our doctors provide you with immediate information about your pet’s health status.
